About Cable Knitting

Sometimes cables "flare" at the lower and upper edges, here's a tip to compensate or eliminate the problem.

You compensate by increasing a few sts before starting the cable and decreasing a few after ending it.  See instructions for swatches 12 and 13 for exact placement of my compensation - placement is determined by the way the cable is formed.

Another problem with cables is that you might find you consistently have lose sts on the left edge of the cable.

When following your cable knitting pattern, and bringing your yarn to the front when changing from a knit stitch to a purl stitch, give the yarn an extra tug to tighten the yarn. This will help eliminate the unsightly  lose stitch common at the edge of a cable.
