Spindle Spinning Book Reviews
Learn to spin with a
drop spindle!
I received my copy of "Spindle Spinning"
by Connie Delaney a couple of days ago and have finally had a chance to sit down
and give it more than a quick going over.
Someone on the list asked about this book, so here it is.
I am really pleased with this book.
She covers high whorl, low whorl, the Navajo spindle, and support spindles, but first
she talks about wool and other fibers.
Subjects covered in the second chapter are Wool types, What to Look for in handspinning wool,
Common defects in wool, Combing, Using Hand cards and much, much more.
Chapter Three is on the spindle and how to make
your own.
Chapter 4 is Spinning a Yarn: The Top-Whorl Spindle
Some of the subjects of this chapter:
Getting more length, Point of twist, the Peruvian wind on, Plying, More Speed.
These are only some of the things she discusses.
There are chapters on Troubleshooting, Bottom-Whorl
Spindles, The Navajo
Spindle, and the Supported Spindle
There are detailed instructions for all subjects
and many excellent drawings which show what she describes verbally.
This book is 80 pages long and full of information. There are many things
I know will help me.
There were many wonderful articles written on
spindle spinning in the spindle issue of Spinoff, but this book still adds
good and new (to me) information and it is all in one book
Guess you can tell I like this book.
