 MOCK CABLE PATTERN: 
(multiple of 5 plus 2)

YO = Yarn over. 
Psso = pass sl st over.

Cast on 22 sts

Row 1: p2, *sl 1, knit 2, psso 2 knit sts, p2; rep from * across.
Row 2: knit 2, *p1, yo, p1, knit 2; rep from * across
Row 3: p2, *knit 3, p2; rep from * across.
Row 4: knit 2, *p3, knit 2; rep from * across.

(When working in the round...) Row 1: p2, *sl 1, knit 2, psso 2 knit sts, p2; rep from * across.Row 2: p2, *knit 1, yo, knit 1, p2; rep from * across. Row 3 & 4: p2, *knit 3, p2; rep from * across.

CABLE PATTERN: 
(17 sts) (16 rows)

CN = Cable needle. 
SB = (small bobble) all in next st work knit 1, yo and knit 1, TURN, p3, TURN, knit 3 tog.

Cast on 21 sts. On each row knit 2, work pattern, knit 2.}

Row 1: (knit 2) P5, sl next 4 sts to CN and hold in back, knit 3, p1 and knit 3 from CN, p5. (knit 2) Row 2 & 16: (knit 2) knit 5, p3, knit 1, p3, knit 5.(knit 2) 

Row 3: (knit 2) P4, sl next st to CN and hold in back, knit 3, p1 from CN, p1, sl next 3 sts to CN and hold in front, p1, knit 3 from CN, p4. (knit 2) 

Row 4 & 14: (knit 2) knit 4, p3, knit 3, p3, knit 4. (knit 2) 

Row 5: (knit 2) P3, sl next st to CN and hold in back, knit 3, p1 from CN, p3, sl next 3 sts to CN and hold in front, p1, knit 3 from CN p3. (knit 2) 

Row 6 & 12: (knit 2) knit 3, p3, knit 5, p3, knit 3. (knit 2) 

Row 7: (knit 2) P2, sl next st to CN and hold in back, knit 3, p1 from CN, p5, sl next 3 sts to CN and hold in front, p1, knit 3 from CN p2. (knit 2) 

Row 8 & 10: (knit 2) knit 2, p3, knit 7, p3, knit 2. (knit 2) 

Row 9: (knit 2) P2, knit 3, p3, SB, p3, knit 3, p2. (knit 2) 

Row 11: (knit 2) P2, sl next 3 sts to CN and hold in front, p1, knit 3 from CN, p5, sl next st to CN and hold in back, knit 3, p1 from CN, p2. (knit 2) 

Row 13: (knit 2) P3, sl next 3 sts to CN and hold in front, p1, knit 3 from CN, p3, sl next st to CN and hold in back, knit 3, p1 from CN, p3. (knit 2) 

Row 15: (knit 2) P4, sl next 3 sts to CN and hold in front, p1, knit 3 from CN, p1, sl next st to CN and hold in back, knit 3, p1 from CN, p4. (knit 2)

Braided Cable Knitting Pattern

BRAIDED CABLE:

Sl all sts as if to knit.

C4F  = Sl 2 sts to cn and hold in front, k2, k2 from cn.

C4B = Sl 2 sts to cn and hold in back, k2, k2 from cn.

C3B = Sl 1 st to cn and hold in back, k2, p1 from cn.

C3F = Sl 2 sts to cn and hold in front, p1, k2 from cn.

  Cast on 21 sts. Start ws:

Rows 1, 3:    P4, k2, p2, k2, p4, k3, p4.

Rows 2:        K4, p3, C4B, p2, k2, p2, k4.

Rows 4:        K4, p2, C3B, C3F, C3B, p2, k4.

Rows 5, 7:    P4, k3, p4, k2, p2, k2, p4.

Rows 6:        K4, p2, k2, p2, C4F, p3, k4.

Rows 8:        K4, p2, C3F, C3B, C3F, p2, K4.

CHART:

Beg chart at lower left, ws, and work to right.  Work all even rows (rs) from right to left.  Work odd rows (ws) from left to right.  Bind off in patt.
